LONG DEER IS A W E S O M E AND LONG

If you've yet to experience the majestic, rag-tagness of Manchester's Salford Media City, then you really need to check this video out sharpish. The (occasionally) 8+ strong band are already the city's best kept secret, playing the kind of ramshackle, white-kids doing p-funk wickedness that made the early 'Mondays such an interesting prospect. Long Deer IS Awesome, and long, and this video is both of those things too (*apart from not being very long).

SUPER SUPER GROUP

Have we had a super group lately? A real one? Like in the 70s? One where you're all like, 'bro, wouldn't it be rad if X, Y and Z (gyac, these arent real acts) did a track together' and then you find out that they have done. (A$AP Rocky and LDR does not count).

Well that's not really happened here either with KREAYSHAWN x TRAGIK x GRIMES x BLOOD DIAMONDS but this is pretty dang cool never the less. And they did it in 10 minutes apparently...so there.

Pretty excited about this - new track from BV faves NO CEREMONY/// a n d STAY+
EYES is exactly what you would expect from these 2 acts...but thats exactly what we were hoping for...reverb drenched, dark and brooding electronica that just makes us mad excited for both acts upcoming Manchester dates...likelikelike

NEW MUSIC // PROPHETS OF SINNERMAN

We don't know much about these Prophets of Sinnerman guys apart from they've got a weird name.. What we do know is they're making some of the raddest dark, psychedelic, trance-pop we've heard so far this year. There's just 4 songs and 2 vids to go at presently and no sign of any gigs but at BV we're hoping we might get to see them play soon...exciting stuff

AND JUST LIKE THAT...

Well just over 2 hours ago we wrote, about Evian Christ: 'now just gotta hope he does some shows near by to promote it...(12" single)'

And now it seems our wish has been granted! And with the amazing Holy Other as well...Don't need saying - you need tix for this:

Brap! http://futureeverything.org/music/triangle-records-holy-other-the-haxan-cloak/

Well played Future Everything, well played...

Cassie X (OXOXOXO)

Hey remember Richard X? That guy who 'invented' (NME) (probably) mash-ups back in the early noughties? Well he's back and he's turned our girl Cassie's King Of Hearts, which was already a sweet RnB groove, into the kind of tune that could really get a dancefloor moving. We've always said at BV that Cassie has lots of untapped potential and should be bigger than she is...maybe this could push her into the spotlight finally. We saw her first though right!

EVIAN CHRIST 12"

Forget RSD, the one release we're really excited about this month is the forthcoming 12" vinyl from Producer du Jour EVIAN CHRIST. His four-track Kings And Them EP will be released on Tri Angle Records on 25 June and we'll be reserving our copy asap....now just gotta hope he does some shows near by to promote it...don...

PINS // ELEVENTH HOUR // NEW MUSIC

Coming up fast on the last posts tail is this much anticipated debut release from Manchester's youngest and most exciting new band, PINS. Now we could go on about the fact that they're a not too shabby looking all girl band with only a handful of gigs under their belt like we've read elsewhere.....we could tell you how ace we think the limited edition tape of their debut single. looks....we could even tell you that they're playing a gig soon that we are mad excited about.. But we think this 3.15m gem of a tune can speak for itself....

and if thats not enough you can also check the excellent new video....and what we will say is PINS look to be the new stars on the horizon of Manchester music...dont sleep on this yo.

STAR SLINGER - BAD BITCHES (FEAT. STUNNAMAN & LIL B)

This is great. Manchester's own Star Slinger has properly pulled this collab off with Pack members LIL B and STUNNAMAN. Check that beat! Gonna be hammering this hard for the next month or so no doubt...and its available to DL too...makes me want to do another mixtape! Good good vibes. A

Rocky Ridin Rey!

Well it had to happen; the 2 most hyped and talked about acts of last year were surely bound to collab at some point...and....drum role....here it is...Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky have teamed up for New York producers The Kickdrums, new mixtape Follow the Leader which is out today. The track is called Ridin' and you can hear it below....its OK I guess...but its not really making us that excited for the recently mooted LDR and Tyler collab too much. See what ya think anyways...

LIARING AROUND

Happy to report that the long awaited 6th album from our favourite maverick art-rockers LIARS is due out June 5th. Its called WIXIW and if you worried about how to ask for it at your local record shop then watch the handy video below that *hopefully explains it all. Also if you go over to the bands official Facebook page and click "Like", you'll be able to hear a new song from called "No. 1 Against the Rush" which we are already digging.

JAPANDROIDS // NEW MUSIC

New music out from our favourite good time garage rockers JAPANDROIDS. The House That Heaven Built follows on in a similar vein from 2009s excellent Post Nothing but we arent complaing. If it aint broke right? The song is taken from the new album Celebration Rock which is out this June and also includes last years epic Younger Us. If you havent seen the duo live yet too we suggest you remedy that asap (Soup Kitchen, Manchester in May yo!) as that's really where their noisy but melodic teenage anthems really come into their own.

A$AP ROCKY & araabMUZIK // NEW MUSIC

AND we even spent the time soupin up this player so its all ROCKY VSVP GOTH CHIC for you too.

We spoilin...TRILL!

LIGHT ASYLUM // NEW MUSIC

We've been waiting for ages to hear new stuff from one of our favourite bands from last year, Light Asylum (you need to search out Shallow Tears and A Certain Person if you aint already heard) and now we is bare happy to see that the Brooklyn synth duo are dropping their debut album on 1 May via Mexican Summer. In the meantime though they've just released new track IPC to get us in the mood, which ya can DL in that weird widget thing below.....and hoping there'll be some UK dates coming up soon yes? Please...

NO WAVE AT THE MOVIES

Can't wait to see this new film BLANK CITY....long-lost super-8 footage of the likes of Blondie, Patti Smith and Basquiat, as well as talking heads from Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Steve Buscemi and Lydia Lunch, the story of New York in its lawless, chaotic heyday is on display through the work of John Waters, Vivienne Dick and many more.

EXPRESS YOURSELFS

Looks like Diplo is fast on his way to redemption after t h a t body-popping BB ad a while back with this, his own take on New Orleans bounce. Express Yourself comes from ya man's forthcoming Mad Decent EP and interestingly the video was directed and styled by #Seapunk's own @LILINTERNET and @LILGOVERNMENT (yes yes we've read the NY Times and Vice pieces on Seapunk, we know....anyway its all about #SLIMEPUNK now yes?) Anyway check this vid ya'll. C'est cray cray cher! (and a bit NSFW....only a bit mind)

MAXIMUM HEALTH

So we're pretty stoked to hear that we'll be getting not 1 but 2 albums from one of our favourite bands, HEALTH this year. First up will be the soundtrack to new uber-violent game MAX PAYNE 3...which the band say has a particular Brazilian vibe to fit in with the game setting (and we're thinking HEALTH + RIO CARNIVAL = very exciting shiz, no doubt) You can catch a bit of the game plus score below..and if this wasnt enough we've also got the follow up to 2009's GET COLOUR on its way too...as Jake from the band recently stated: 'We've been sitting on these songs for a minute. We had to postpone everything to do Max Payne, but the cool thing about doing the soundtrack is that we were able to upgrade all our studio gear' Expect big things...

REMIX(X)

This new Beat Culture remix of this old(ish) song just dropped this weekend and we're loving it. Making us quite excited about the new The XX album. Definitely worth a check out:

STAY GOLD

We'd been wondering if the ex-vocalist from STAY+ would be doing something else musically and it seems now our wonder has finally been answered...cos he has.....and we're pleased to say it was worth the wait. The new band (solo act?? studio project?? :S) is called MOSES GOLD and we're also pleased to say debut tune, Luvsick picks up perfectly from where the Christian AIDS stuff left off; with haunting Ian Curtis-esque vocals echoing out of a pulsing atmospheric track that slowly builds into a death disco stomper....more..

NITE JEWEL / ONE SECOND OF LOVE

LA's Nite Jewel has always been a strong favourite of ours, but in the past we've always felt a little short-changed, that her actual output has never truly lived up to the idea of her (see also NYCs Telepathe) but it seems now, with new album One Second of Love she's finally created that lo-fi electro masterpiece that she always threatened to. Secretly Canadian are releasing the album properly on 5 March but if you get over there quick they're also currently streaming the entire thing on their Soundcloud. Wonderful stuff...

NO CEREMONY /// HEARTBREAKER /// NEW MUSIC

NO CEREMONY seem to have done it again, dropping another track of sick beats and dark yet uplifting synths that more than transends any yawns from the neysayers regarding whether we need ANOTHER mysterious act from Manchester (clue: probs not, but hey) HEARTBREAKER throbs into life like the evil, cooler twin of AnCos Summertime Clothes with a hauntingly beautiful vocal line holding the whole thing together....you can see the also excellent hanging babies vid below and DL the tune for free over at N///C's site

Also make sure you catch them (him? her? We know - not telling...) at the first UK show with other great bands, Alt-J, PINS, GREAT WAVES and MONEY being put on by the ever brilliant NOW WAVE boys. Coming to an office block near you soon..TIX

CASSIE TIME

Here at Bare Vibes we've always loved Cassie (like really lurved!) but up to now she's seemed to be a little quiet on the media front...no biggy sure cos that dont mean she aint sirrus stuff (just check out the still rad as hell CFCF remix of Official Girl below) but also with new track King of Hearts its now surely her time to give Bey and Nicki a run for their money in diva stakes...so hot right now...and those lips and vid get-up has got us pretty steamed up.  DM us Cassie! We waitin girl...

GOATBOY LIVES....

Very much digging this today. Dirty psychedelic afro-funk grooves and a hyperbolic press release that shows you how these things should go down:

Goat are a collective who hail from a small and very remote village called Korpolombolo in deepest darkest Sweden.
Legend has it that for centuries, the inhabitants of the village of Korpolombolo were dedicated to the worship and practices of Voodoo.
This strange and seemingly unlikely activity was apparently introduced into the area after a travelling witch doctor and a handful of her disciples were led to Korpolombolo by following a cipher hidden within their most sacred of ancient scriptures.
The reason it led them there is unknown, but their Voodoo influence quickly took hold over the whole village and so they made it their home - there, they were able to practice their craft unnoticed and unbothered for several centuries.
This was until their non-Christian ways were discovered by the Church and they were burned out by the crusaders, the survivors cursing the village over their shoulders as they fled.
To this day, the now picturesque village of Korpolombolo is still haunted by this Voodoo curse; the power of the curse can be felt throughout the grooves of Goat

NEW PICTUREPLANE MIX

We're pleased to report our boy Travis has once more come up with the goods and dropped a ballin new mixtape (via Gucci Goth - thanks!). Can also report it does not disappoint, we've already had it on twice this morning...

And here's a few words from the man himself: 'I made a new mix exclusively for GG. it is called YOU ARE A TERRORIST, YOU ARE A POET. Made up of using lots of delay and slightly slowed big room and anthemic 120bpm house music. Think of Ibiza in a k hole. But with a light at the end of the tunnel. Everything I do is filled with love. There is no tracklisting because a lot of the tracks are very very different sounding than from what they sound like normally. The title of the mix is a literary reference to the essay “Poetic Terrorism” by Hakim Bey. The mix is meant to give strength to the listener.'

Enjoy....

(essay worth a read too)

SEAPUNK

So SEAPUNK? A new music genre? A new fashion movement? A Barley-esque blog meme? A load of nuffink? One things for sure we've seen the name popping up all over the web this week, its hashtag standing proud for all to see. So wha gwaan?

Well it seems no sooner has Chill Rave been announced than its got a new successor to its 'scene of the moment' crown, and its all about the sea..and wearing blue....more importantly turquoise...

Main instigators seem to be the guys over at Coral Records who have just dropped the sampler you can hear below...its early days but we're liking the vibe, think tropical, euphoric chip beats all hosted by internet v1, intentionally eye-raping websites and youre on your way there....and it wouldnt hurt to give BV fave Unicorn Kid a spin too if you havent already as scenemakers are already tipping him as the UKs greatest SEAPUNK hope! Don...

Well they might as well stop we think cos our boy Clams Casino has done it again with his spooky-glitched up offering below.... pretty damn trill yo til we wait for guys follow up to 'Instrumentals'

Pictureplane - Dimensional Rip 7: Thee Physical Remixes by DISmagazine

D/R/U/G/S/2/0/1/2

Interview: Aural Sects

So after stumbling across this rad new label we thought we'd ask them for an interview so we could get a little more of an idea about whats happnin and what to expect for 2012. Here tis:

So, Aural Sects, wha gwaan? How did you start this cross-atlantic label?

AIGHT YO, we's gud. Pet Cemetery (Bunny), Spf50 (Joe ), I AM WATER (Micah) and Fire Coral (Jack) all met through Soundcloud and a particular and controversial (in the scene) facebook group around a year ago. We eventually left inb4 shitstorm, and created a new group where we added like-minded newbie and veteran musicians to form some sort of help-centre. We kind of evolved from that. Sadly Jack has had to drop out of the label as our finance guy, but he's still with the label. We actually only properly started around 6 months ago with the label. And the first month or so was us figuring out the name and logo. Don Anonimo designed us a nice logo and Seattle musician(and contributor to label) Haruki Tamesue gave us our namesake. We've managed to squeeze in around 40 albums in the intervening time.

The fact that we're cross-atlantic pretty much just arose from the fact that we're pretty much just based online. Only a few of our artists/members have met IRL.

You’ve described yourselves as a URL movement not based out of one location. Do you think that more and more now local scenes are becoming irrelevant?

It's a different type of locality – it matters now where you hang out online rather than where you physically put your body. It's where the mind is, not the flesh, which has come about as a natural side-effect of living in an age of easily transmittable information.

That's not to say that local scenes are becoming irrelevant – there is still a lot to be said for placing individuals in a room with instruments to bounce ideas off – it's less organic a process to collaborate artistically online. It's just that there are new roads open to people that obviously weren't before. Long distance collaborations have been happening since the Enlightenment though, it's not particularly new...

What are the scenes like where you are?

Bunny: I live near Manchester and Liverpool in the UK so I guess pretty good, but if I'm honest the only connection to any scene I've had is the horror punk scene around here. I am probably the least hip person on the planet, and therefore I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA.

Joe: Personally i live in a cultural black hole and til I move somewhere more interesting (but what's more interesting the burgeoning net culture movement?) I don't really partake of the local "culture." I prefer the pockets of sound spread thinly throughout the world, the hidden gems that never get the mass affection, yet seem to resonate so strongly with a certain few. In a nutshell that's what witch house is like, a scene of seemingly a million people all spread out so thin you almost don't know it's a subculture unless you turn on your computer or live in a major city (and even then it's sparse!)... which i do not (I FEEL UR PAIN VLAD).

Micah: Oh man, the scene here is your typical flannel wearing cutoff jean, pop-punk-folk listening hipsters. The majority of the people I’d hang around before deciding I couldn’t have it anymore were like local punk kids. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But when they are all super judgmental hipster bbys it’s pretty bad.

Any plans for any physical releases in the future?

YES. There are some plans afoot, starting with homemade CD-Rs and tapes and progressing to vinyl. We have a few proposals on the table but as yet no capital to fund it.

So far we've gone 100% free til the most recent release "ICE AGE" by Murphreesboro musician FR<>ZE which is a digital LP release for $3. We're still sorting out some business issues but we plan to continue selling digitally at very reasonable prices then stepping into most likely cd-r's and ultimately limited vinyl releases. We want to continue giving away as much art as possible while providing awesome art at a price that respects the fact all media can easily be stolen.

Are all your acts currently in bedroom producer mode or can we expect to see any AS bands on tour anytime soon?

Not sure about a tour per se, but lot of our artists are doing their own gigs here and there, independently. Black Ceiling is a well-received DJ in his area, Moon Mirror has done a couple of shows, one of which supporting Os Ovni, but that's really it so far. We'd like to hope some do a full tour – or even get us all together and do a multinational AS tour, but who knows what the future holds?

What was your personal highlights of 2011?

Bunny: It's either got to be seeing the Aural Sects name crop up in blogs that we knew nothing about, or it has to be the sheer positive response we've had as an upstart label.

Joe: In terms of highlights of 2011, 1st starting the label. 2nd the AURAL SECTS mix for Dior Nights (sampler of tracks from AURAL SECTS artists, get it here free http://auralsects.bandcamp.com/album/aural-sects-a-mix-for-dior-nights) was a huge thing for us. We got major downloads and bandcamp traffic from this and is a huge part of the buzz we got and blogs started taking notice. Definitely a big push for us. In tandem with that Nattymari made his "forcible aural compilation" mix from select tracks on the sampler complete with his own gritty, cyberpunk ghetto goth 455 FVCK73D music video(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mpl264eZkc). Another highlight would have to be Black Ceiling's II, dubbed by Shane from Earmilk.com as his album of the year (read the article here: http://www.earmilk.com/2011/11/01/black-ceiling-ii-album-review-download/).

Micah: I’m in a pretty similar boat, being able to be such a key part of AS as a whole is just a really great experience.

Do you have a new year’s resolution?

Bunny: MAKE MUSIC, PUT OUT PHYSICAL, GET BLOGGED, GET FUCKED, GET PAID. Uuuhhh scratch those last two. We just want to put out our artists and get them playing shows...

Joe: Make physicals!

Micah: Get money get paid. (Lulz)

Are you looking forward to 2012?

Bunny: THE YEAR OF OUR DEMISE SHALL BE A SWEET ONE. Actually yeah, definitely looking forward to 20†2. We have a lot of stuff hitting around the end of year leading to February that we're really proud of, some really special compilations with artists from AS releases and many of our friends in similar circles of music.  We've had a pretty great year – and a lot of positive response in a short amount of time – and we're hoping for more of the same.

What new artists/bands would you recommend we look out for in 2012?

Bunny: Tash Willmore, Peachblack, CRIM3S, BL▲CK † CEILING, Witchboy, NANCY, Purity Ring, Crossover, VS//YOUTHCLUB and... well many more. Also see the Inevitable Rise of Krakenstep – seapunk's deeper, darker, uglier, more cephalopodic sister.

Joe: Artists to keep an eye on in our camp I'd say def keep an eye on anything Black Ceiling touches, expect more beautiful night pop from Moon Mirror,  and Tash Willmore is always a good one to watch. Oh and Witchboy, who will be releasing Hollymode (http://vimeo.com/29217745) with AURAL SECTS before the years end, is always good to keep an eye on.

Micah: Idk, if I had all the money in the world I’d take me and the boys to scout out some jpop talent. But for now, we will have to search through the dark scary depths of the net.
